Although the New Eagle Council interviewed 10 qualified applicants to fill the Secretarial position that will be vacated in January, a candidate has yet to be hired.
Linda Hall, the current secretary of 33 years, will be vacating the position and the goal was to bring on a part-time secretary so that training could begin.

Although council President Jack Fine said all ten candidates were acceptable, only two were nominated for hire. Motions to hire Georeen Bush and Vicky Shurgott were both defeated by votes of 2-3.

The Borough received an additional $1550.99 from PennDot for snow-removal for the 2012-2013 year. They approved a snow removal contract for 2013-2014 year for state maintained roads for $8,449.00, which was an increase of $157.58 over last year.

A resolution to pay the Mid-Mon Valley Transit Authority $1,447.00 was approved. It was noted that this amount hasn’t changed for the last several years.

The contract which Geokinetics left with the Borough to begin Siesmic testing had some stipulations added by solicitor Tim Berggren. All the requested edits were agreed to so the contract was approved. The stipulations included bonding Borough roads for $100,000 and a million dollar insurance policy.

The Library sent a letter thanking New Eagle for their generous support. Per capita, New Eagle is the most involved in helping the library to continue its service to the community. The letter also asked that council remind residents to stop in to obtain the new library card that is being issued for use.

The Borough reported cleaning a drainage ditch behind the trailer park. Also, an abandoned trailer on Walnut street is being removed at no cost to the Borough by Chuck Smith. The road crew is also working on catch-basins. They’re having some trouble keeping up with the grass-cutting but having work-release people to help on the 20th and 21st should allow them to catch up. The Borough reports grass and weed cutting on 12 abandoned properties. They plan to cite the owners with a five-day notice each time the grass is cut.

The Borough sent a letter to the Action Group, requesting payment for additional water costs since the group has been there.

Mayor Glenn Petticord says New Eagle has experienced some modest new home growth in the last three years. He attributes this to the clean-up and tearing down of old businesses and of residents taking better care of their properties.

There will be some business growth also as he reported that Eddie Volker is putting a new inspection station in New Eagle. “I’m grateful he’s making a large investment in the community,” he stated.

Next on the list for improvements and clean-up are the Old West Penn Power Building and the Vine Street concession stand, the latter of which the mayor wants torn down.
