FREE COMMUNITY DINNER - The California United Methodist Church is pleased to invite the local community to its monthly Free Community Dinner on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 from 6:00PM – 7:00PM. This month, we are serving up a fan favorite: Taco Night! Building Community, One Meal at a Time. To create a true community-style dining experience, attendees are invited to bring a variety of side dishes or desserts to share, though the main meal is provided at no cost. Church Social Hall, 227 Third Street, California, PA (directly across from Dairy Queen). The dinner is open to all members of the public. While donations are graciously accepted to help sustain the program, they are never expected. SENIOR EXPO - State Representative Andrew Kuzma is sponsoring his 4th Annual Senior Expo on Friday, September 4 at the Boston Spectrum, 6001 Smithfield Street, Elizabeth Township, 15135. This is a free event! No reservation required. Approximately 40 vendors participate in the expo. The vendors provide a wide range of information and assistance for seniors regarding health, finance, veteran benefits and connect cards through Pittsburgh Rapid Transit on site. Exhibitors are also on hand from state and local agencies to assist and answer questions important to seniors. In addition to the indoor vendors, the large, purple UPMC mobile unit participates each year in the Senior Expo, providing free health screenings to all attendees! WHISKEY REBELLION - Festifall Festival - The annual Friendship Hill ‘Whiskey Rebellion-Festifall Festival’ will be held on Saturday and Sunday September 5 and 6, 2026 from 11:00AM - 4:00PM at the Friendship Hill National Park Historic Site, 223 New Geneva Road, Point Marion, PA 15474. Oliver Miller Homestead, the Bradford House, and the Sons of Liberty (Arthur St. Clair and Washington Chapters) will also be in attendance. An artillery demonstration by the National Park Service will feature the firing of a 6-pound cannon. CLAIRTON HIGH SCHOOL REUNION PICNIC - Clairton alumni from all classes will gather for the 21st Clairton High School Reunion Picnic on Saturday, Sept. 5 from 11:00AM until 4:00PM at Clairton Park Lodge. New this year will be a focus on Clairton history and recording veterans’ stories. Alumni and guests can view Clairton artifacts – photos, memorabilia and more – on Friday, Sept. 4 from 11:00AM until 3:00PM at the Clairton Municipal Building. Representatives of the Veterans Breakfast Club, a Pittsburgh nonprofit organization, will interview Clairton residents and natives about their military service that day and Saturday at the picnic. TALON TALK - On Tuesday September 8th at 6:00 pm the Monessen Public Library will have the program, "TALON TALK." In this program, the presenters will dive into the characteristics that define raptors and why they are important to our ecosystems. Audiences will discover the various types of birds of prey found all over the world, what it takes to care for a bird of prey, and learn how Nature's Educators is permitted to keep raptors. The audience will learn about their personal histories, anatomy, hunting strategies, and habitats.  The presentation will feature 4 live raptors. SEPTEMBER 11 REMEMBRANCE PROGRAM - The Long Branch Community Grange is inviting the Community to come remember with us. We will have a program presented by individuals who were affected by this event and what they have done in the years since then. Because this event begins at 6:00PM and many of you will be coming directly from work or school, we are hoping to have a few food trucks participate to give you the opportunity to purchase dinner and sit around and talk with your neighbors or a new friend. SKY PILOT CONCERT - Monessen City Park Amphitheater. Sky Pilot will take the stage at the Monessen City Park Amphitheater on Saturday, September 12, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. The concert is the latest event in the City of Monessen’s Music in the Park concert series, bringing live music and community entertainment to the Monessen City Park. Sky Pilot is known for its energetic performances and classic rock repertoire, making the group a great addition to this year’s concert lineup. Community members are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy an evening of live music in the park. The event will feature ample parking, handicapped-accessible areas, and Hilltop VFD serving food and drinks. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, settle in, and enjoy the beautiful City Park setting.

PAWS IN THE PARK AND VENDOR SHOW - Walking Track, City Park in Monessen, 10:00am-2:00pm. This is a rain or shine event. At our signature event, Mon Valley Paws will have food trucks, vendors (pet and non-pet), DJ, flash tattoos, the kid’s zone, balloon artist, face painting, a caricature artist, Yoga in the Park, pet photos, pet contests, doggie races, K-9 demos, Blessing of the pets, raffles, and a basket auction. Bring any pet food item and be entered to win a Pet Supplies Plus $50., gift card

Michael’s Ovation will be on site with the Michael Shaffer Pet Memorial Bridge, Pet Supplies Plus Shelter and Rescue Village will have adoptable pets from our 4 partnered shelter and rescues. Shuttle bus service will be available from Monessen High School parking lot to the Walking Track, every 15 minutes. Transportation begins at 9am-3pm. Gift bags to the first 100 Registered Pets. WASHINGTON COUNTY PRAYER GATHERING - 1:00PM – 6:00PM, at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The purpose is to bless the community, unify and revive churches around Washington County, and strengthen the efforts of the City Mission, an organization that has served the homeless population in Washington County since 1941. The event is spearheaded by Men of Honor Ministries' President, Pat O'Brien, working alongside other local ministries and organizations. This free event will kick off at 1:00PM with a complimentary meal and will continue with a time for honoring pastors, words from guest speakers, and opportunities to connect with churches and resources in the region.

Attendees will hear testimony from Rocco Welsh, a two-time All-American wrestler from Penn State University, and will worship alongside national recording artists Jonathan Traylor and Jordan St. Cyr. Pastor Mike MacIntosh, founder of the United States Prayer Force, will present the keynote message.

The organizers' prayer is that the afternoon's events will have an impact throughout Washington County long after the day is over. Whether someone is deeply rooted in a local church, searching for a church home, or simply curious about faith, the invitation is the same: come as you are and be a part of the day.

PUBLIC RANGE DAY - The Rostraver Sportsmen Club & Conservation Association is opening our 100 yard range to the public! Join us on Saturday, September 19, from 12:00PM to 4:00PM for a chance to enjoy an hour of range time. Donation is $5 per person (covers one hour of range use). Additional Time may be purchased if lanes are available, but those waiting for their first session will receive priority. Bring Your Own Equipment: No firearms or ammunition will be provided. Safety Gear is required. All shooters and spectators must wear eye and ear protection at all times. Come out, practice safely, and learn more about our club and its facilities. 1ST ANNUAL AMATEUR BOXING SHOW - Clairton Park will become the setting for an exciting evening of amateur boxing when the 1st Annual ‘Jim Cerqua Hands Up Guns Down: Showdown in the Park’ takes place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The event will feature top amateur boxers from Western Pennsylvania and beyond. Doors will open at 3:00 p.m., with the first bout scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. The event will be hosted by Clairton mayor, Jim Cerqua, and Steven Upsher, a retired top world-rated professional boxer. The event is also associated with Star Status Boxing and the Champions in Life Association. Admission is $10 for children and $15 for adults, making the event an opportunity for families and members of the surrounding communities to come together and support local amateur boxing and the young athletes taking part.

PRAISE FESTIVAL 2026 – Sponsored by The Brownsville Area Ministerial Association on Saturday, September 19, from 1:00PM – 6:00PM at the Cast Iron Amphitheater.  The rain location will be the Brownsville Sons of Italy.  Featured will be local singers/choirs, praise bands, pastors, a speaker from a local youth group, a dance ministry, and a flag ministry, etc.

ANNUAL CHARITY BIKE RUN - The American Legion Riders Chapter 701 in White Oak, PA is hosting an annual charity bike run on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The ride will begin and end at the American Legion Post 701, 2813 Capitol Street, White Oak, PA 15131.  In-person registration begins at 9AM; Ride departure at 11AM.   The ride will take approximately two hours with a rest stop. Pre-registration is available at https://alr701.org.  Paypal, Venmo and Cash App are payment methods accepted in advance. Lunch will follow at the return of the ride.  Rider fee is $20; passenger fee is $15; and general attendance is $15. Raffle baskets, Lottery Tree raffle, and 50/50 raffles will be available. 4TH ANNUAL NITROUS PHIL'S CAR, TRUCK AND BIKE CRUISE - Hosted by the West Newton Lions and proceeds will benefit a Yough Tech Ed, Graduate, who is majoring in Auto Mechanics. The event takes place on Sunday, Sept. 20. 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Entrance fee for cruisers is $10. DJ Randy will be spinning the sounds. Plenty of parking, outside and inside restrooms, large pavilion, Homemade Food and Desserts, Dash Plates for the first 100 cruisers attending. SOUTH PARK WOMEN’S CLUB MEETING - The SPWC first meeting after summer break will be held on Monday, September 21 at 7:00PM at the South Park Township Community Center.  This will be a chance for members to socialize and discuss plans for the upcoming year.   We will have our annual Farmer’s Market which includes items for sale of produce, plants and baked goods (many homemade) which support our fundraising efforts.    There will also be a break to partake in delicious refreshments provided by that night’s hospitality group.  Women from surrounding communities are welcome to attend the meeting as a guest to meet club members, ask questions, and consider joining the SPWC as a member!

HISTORY OF THE TERRIBLE TOWEL - Discover the story behind one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic sports symbols, the ‘Terrible Towel’, at the West Jefferson Hills Historical Society (WJHHS) September program.

Created by famed sports broadcaster Myron Cope in 1975, this piece of Pittsburgh iconography has endured through the years. All are welcome to come to this free program in the Community Rooms of the Jefferson Hills Borough Building at 7:00 PM on September 23 where they will hear Elizabeth Cope share more particulars about the Terrible Towel as well as details about her life growing up as the daughter of the famous Pittsburgh broadcaster. Cope's presentation, an ideal program for football season, promises to evoke great memories of the Pittsburgh Steeler past.
