Gregg II, Ph.D. has done extensive studying on life and accomplishments of our first President.  George Washington was a Citizen, Soldier and Stateman and is considered one of the greatest men who ever lived. FALL RUMMAGE SALE - United Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will hold its annual Fall Rummage Sale Thursday, Oct. 1 through Saturday, Oct. 3 at the church, located at 499 E. Malden Drive, Coal Center. Sale hours are

Most items during the sale will be offered on a "name your own price" basis. Donations for the rummage sale are currently being accepted at the church during regular office hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. Volunteers are also needed to assist with sorting, setup, and staffing throughout the event. BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS - The First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon located at 501 Fayette Avenue in Rostraver Township will hold their 11th annual ‘Blessing of the Animals’ on Saturday October 3, at 10:00AM rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather event will be held inside the church.  All pets welcome! 5^TH ANNUAL FALL FEST - Calvary Church of the Nazarene invites the community to its 5th Annual Fall Fest on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 11:00AM to 3:00PM at 73 Promised Land Drive, Coal Center, PA. The autumn celebration features a car show, craft and vendor market, family activities, and seasonal concessions. The Fall Fest Car Show runs from 11:00 AM to 3:00PM, with participant vehicle set-up scheduled from 9:00AM to 11:00AM. Vehicle entry is open to the public with a $10 suggested donation. The first 100 registered cars will receive commemorative dash plaques. Trophies will be presented at 3:00PM across multiple categories: Best of Show, Top 15, Pastor’s Choice, Ladies’ Choice, and Kids’ Choice. Alongside the car show, local artisans, crafters, and vendors will showcase their products under the church picnic shelter. Vendor spaces are available for $20 each and include an 8-foot table under the shelter, though vendors may bring their own tables and outdoor canopies if preferred. SUNDAY SUPPER CABBAGE ROLL DINNER - Saint Katharine Drexel Parish, at Drexel Hall, located at 208 Abromaitis Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314. The dinner features home-style cabbage rolls prepared fresh by church volunteers. Each $15 dinner includes two large cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, corn, and a roll with butter. Dine-in service begins at 11:00AM, with meals available until sold out or 2:00PM. Take-out orders are also available, featuring convenient curbside pick-up. FREE COMMUNITY DINNER - The California United Methodist Church warmly invites all local residents and neighbors to its monthly Free Community Dinner on Wednesday, October 7 from 6:00PM – 7:00PM. This month’s featured menu presents a delicious, warm meal of classic ham and sweet potatoes, hosted in a welcoming environment for all. While the primary entrée and sides are provided at no cost, attendees are welcome to bring a favorite side dish or dessert to share with the table. CANDLELIGHT GHOST WALK - Listen to the true haunted tales of Monongahela as told by originator and author, Susan Bowers. Follow her by candlelight as she leads you through Monongahela's darkened streets. See photos of actual spirits encountered over the years. You won't be disappointed! The Ghostwalks will begin at 7:00PM on Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24.  Attendees will gather each night at the Monongahela Area Library. Depending on weather, we will either meet inside the library lobby or gather in the front parking lot. This event is rain or shine. We will have hot cocoa for sipping and everyone gets a keepsake bookmark! Copies of Susan's book, "Haunted Tales Along the Mon" will be available for sale at the end of the walk. This event is recommended for ages 10+. 32ND ANNUAL CRAFT SHOW - The South Park Women’s Club well-attended, top-notch craft show will be held on Saturday, October 10 from 10:00AM – 3:00PM at Broughton Fire Hall, 1030 Cochran Mill Road in South Park.   Admission and parking are FREE.   The show features over 50 skilled crafters offering a wide variety of unique, homemade crafts.  In addition, there will be a bake sale, raffles and a chance auction.  There will be a variety of refreshments and drinks to purchase - either for lunch or to take home.  The SPWC invites everyone to come, shop and stay for lunch!

5TH ANNUAL PUMPKIN RACE - Community Revitalization of West Newton (C.R.O.W.N.) will be holding their 5th Annual Pumpkin Race on Saturday, October 10 at 2:00PM in Cort Street Park. Come out and watch hundreds of pumpkins race down Cort Street. Enter the contest for just a $5 donation.   The first 3 pumpkins across the finish line win! First place prize is $125. Second place prize is $100, and Third place prize is $75. Winner does not need to be present.

HALLOWEEN BASH AND NIGHT ARTIST MARKET - South Arts Pittsburgh is once again collaborating with Reginald’s Coffee House located at the Schoolhouse Art and History Center, 2600 South Park Road in Bethel Park for their Halloween Bash and South Arts Night Artist Market. This will take place on Friday, October 16 from 5:00PM - 9:00PM. This is an adult only event with a costume contest along with artists and vendors with a focus on a Halloween theme.

HOBGOBLIN HIKES - The haunted ‘Hobgoblin Hikes’ are almost here! The only free events of their kind in our area, these haunted walks are sponsored by Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation. The Hobgoblin Hikes alternate between four regional parks every year. In 2026, Hobgoblin Hikes will be offered only at Cedar Creek Park on Saturday, October 17, and at Twin Lakes Park on Saturday, October 24. Hikes run continuously from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. rain or shine and will only be cancelled due to dangerous and severe weather. Recommended for ages eight and over, the Hobgoblin Hikes are half-mile guided outdoor walks through the haunted woods of the park.  Visitors can expect to be led through tunnels and cemeteries, and past more than 100 zombies, ghosts, and monsters. No two Hobgoblin Hikes are exactly the same and each park has unique haunted scenes. The Hobgoblin Hikes are a safe family alternative to conventional trick-or-treating. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.  While no treats will be distributed, visitors are still welcome to dress in costume. ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT - The Mon-Yough River Valley Rotary Club will sponsor an Electronics Recycling event on October 17 from 10:00AM to 1:00PM at the Herman Mihalich Boat Launch, located at 1 Monongahela St., Monessen. There will be restrictions on the number and types of items accepted at the event offered with assistance from Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling, the City of Monessen and ProWaste LLC of Belle Vernon. A four-item-per-person limit will be enforced.   There is no charge for this event, but donations will be accepted to fund projects in the communities served by the Rotary club.

VINTAGE RADIO PLAYERS - Join the South Park Women’s Club (SPWC) at their Monday, October 19 meeting at 7:00PM for an evening of fun and entertainment!   This meeting is open to the public. The club will host the Vintage Radio Players, a group that performs the old-time radio shows from original scripts. They have done such shows as George Burns and Gracie Allen, My Friend Irma, and Life of Riley. The group will be led by director Jean Miller.   This meeting will be held in the South Park Township Community Center, located in the Municipal Complex on Brownsville Road (across from Bavarian Village).   As usual there will be a break to partake in the club’s delicious goodies provided by that night’s hospitality group.   Women from surrounding communities are welcome to attend and we hope you consider joining the SPWC as a member.

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME – 7:00PM at Keystone Oaks High School, 1000 Kelton Avenue in Dormont.   Pittsburgh Area Theatre Organ Society (PATOS), formed in 1971, is pleased to announce their upcoming Halloween program on Oct 24, 2026. Experience a night at the movies unlike anything you’ll find at today’s multiplex. Witness the mighty PATOS theater organ as it accompanies the thrilling 1923 silent film THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME starring Lon Chaney, "the man of a THOUSAND FACES” and the most famous star of silent horror films. The story is a classic Victor Hugo tale of love, betrayal and redemption. Accompanying the film will be the world famous, award-winning organist/historian Mr. Clark Wilson who has a 35 year career as house organist at the Ohio Theatre in Columbus, Ohio. Clark will be at the console of the historic three-manual, nineteen-rank Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ originally installed in the Prospect Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.

44TH ANNUAL CARPATHO-RUSYN CELEBRATION - St. John the Baptist Church in Uniontown, PA, located at 201 E. Main Street, is celebrating its annual Carpatho-Rusyn ethnic festival in the Parish Social Hall from 12:00 noon to 5:00PM. Divine Liturgy for the day will be at 9:00AM. Doors will open at 12:00 NOON. There will be ethnic foods such as holubki, pirohi, halushki, kolbasi and sauerkraut, soup, pagach, baked goods (long rolls, a variety of pastries, cakes, kolachi, breads, and much more). This annual event will feature performances of Rusyn Folk music by “SOKYRA” starting at 1:00PM and 4:00PM and continue throughout the afternoon. SLAVJANE FOLK DANCE group will perform at 2:30PM.   There may be a speaker and/or video presentations on Rusyn cultural aspects such as customs and traditions. ‘TRUNK OR TREAT’ - Thomas Presbyterian Church will hold a ‘Trunk or Treat’ on Friday, October 30 from 6:30PM to 8:00PM. In addition to the treats, we will serve hot dogs, hamburgers and chips. Our Trunk or Treat will be held in our Christian Life Center so this is a rain or shine event. Come and join us for a fun way to kick off your Halloween weekend!
