Council announced that Fallowfield Avenue will be closed during daylight hours on June 6 and 7 while the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation completes repaving the road.

First through Seventh streets will be closed with traffic rerouted onto McKean Avenue.

Council approved the hiring of four summer workers to assist the Street Department with various projects. The workers are Steve Iacovino, Ian Whiten, Anthony Siwiak and Scott Mcafee.

The Charleroi town clock will be out of operation for two weeks while it is being repaired out of state by Missouri Time. The clock which is a borough landmark, typically needs work every six to seven years.

The Mayor announced Student Government Day to take place this year on April 19, once again at the American Legion. Charleroi High School seniors will take on the roles of various local borough leaders and shadow them for the day, providing them with practical knowledge of local government. The students and officials will join for lunch and a certificate presentation.

Council authorized Borough Manager Donn Henderson to sign a petition to Preserve Historic Tax Credits. The petition supports keeping the tax credits at their current level and not cutting them with the budget.

Mayor Nancy Ellis will again be running for re-election this year. She stated,” I’d like to continue the progress we’ve made with the Regional Police, cleaning up drugs in town and ordinances for absentee landlords. There’s a much brighter future for Charleroi.”

Three local mayors, Bill Lee of Speers, Lee Hall of N. Charleroi and Nancy Ellis of Charleroi, were recognized by the Mon Valley Progress Council on April 25 for their work on the Regional Police Force.
