New Road Department Trucks Purchased at March Meeting
By Earl Bugaile

The Fallowfield Township website will be getting a new look. At their regular meeting held March 27, township supervisors voted to retain Stacy Smith of Smith Design Worx to give the township webpage a new look, that will have the capability of displaying information on township events and activities.

Ms. Smith, who told supervisors that she has also designed a website for the City of Monessen, will redesign the webpage at a cost of $500. There will also be a monthly maintenance fee of $25. The proposal was approved by a unanimous vote.
Smith presented a menu of prices for other design services, including photography and brochure development.

”This is especially important for people to have something that can catch their attention,” said supervisor Wilber Caldwell. “It’s something we have talked about in the past, where we can have a more dynamic website, especially as new companies consider moving in.”

Supervisors also approved the expenditure of $206,280 for the purchase of two new trucks for the road department. One is a 2014 Freightliner including body and plow attachments. The second is a 2014 International Terra Star SFA 4X4. The township will pay for the vehicles over a four-year period under a Municipal Finance Lease Agreement with Highway Commercial Services, Inc. The supervisors also purchased a five-year service agreement for the two new vehicles.

Following the appointments of Bruce Smith to the Planning Commission board, and Cindy Kemp and Paul Shawley to the Parks and Recreation Board last month, supervisors tabled action to establish terms for the new board members. Chairman Earl Sadler said action will be taken at the next meeting to set terms to assure that their terms alternate with current members to assure that not all members’ terms expire at the same time.

In accepting annual bids for the purchase of road paving materials, supervisors tabled bids for stone in order to further study the bids. Proposals were submitted by Hanson Aggregates, Jack cool and Laurel Aggregates. Contracts are expected to be awarded at the April meeting. Hanson Aggregates submitted the lone bid for super pave material. Their bid of $55,250 was approved. No bids were received for diesel fuel. Supervisors will re-advertise for proposals.

In other action at the March meeting, supervisors approved a motion for the township engineer to begin the design and construction for a bridge at the intersection of S.R. 2033 (Bentleyville Road), Grange Road and Main Street. The township will receive state funding for the project.

The supervisors also approved the sale of surplus property owned by the township of an estimated fair market valie at under $1,000.

The supervisors next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on April 17 at 6:00 pm
