Local Mayors Recognized for Regional Police Efforts
By Christina Walko

Charleroi Mayor Nancy Ellis, along with the Speers and N. Charleroi Mayors are to be the first recipients of the Intergovernmental Progress award. The mayors are being recognized by the Mon Valley Progress Council for their work on the much needed Regional Police force, which has been a great success.

“ It was really a money saving effort for the people of Charleroi”, says Ellis about the police which has been up and running successfully for over a year. The Borough is also advertising for a part-time officer for the force.

Mayor Ellis announced a low-cost Rabies Plus Clinic for dogs and cats will be held on Sunday, May 19th at the Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Road in Monongahela. The effort is sponsored in part by the Charleroi Cat Project which raised $8000 for spaying and neutering in its efforts to curb the feral cat population in the Charleroi/North Charleroi region.

The Borough has purchased new and better LED lights for the streets which will be in sometime in April. In the meantime some lights are left without bulbs as it would not be cost-effective or efficient for the borough to replace them with the current quality bulbs. The council will work to inform businesses of this by email.
