During the March 11, 2013 Belle Vernon Borough meeting Mayor Jackson commended the local police for their excellent work throughout the month. A drug bust was successful in Belle Vernon at the beginning of March and an arson arrest was made, concluding an investigation that started after a fire in July 2012.

Mayor Jackson also spoke about deteriorating road conditions in the borough, especially on Main Street and Blind Lane near the Belle Vernon Apartments high rise. “I know that we patched Blind Lane in pieces,” Jackson said. “Our crews are trying to keep ahead of things.”

The problems on Main Street could be more difficult to approach. PennDot may have plans to deal with landslides on Route 906, which would delay any roadwork for Main Street.

The borough has been fielding complaint calls about numerous stray cats in the area, particularly around Wood and Fourth Streets. Council President Joe Minniti will be contacting animal control to deal with the issue.

Mr. Minniti also mentioned that a fallen tree damaged two vacant houses on Wood Street. One of those properties, 201 Wood Street, is on the demolition list.
