By a unanimous vote, Frank Arcuri was selected as Peters Township Council Chairman for the year 2013, as was James Berquist as vice-chairman. The selections were confirmed at council’s reorganization meeting on January 7.

It is customary for council to change chairmen each year for revolving leadership to occur so that no one council member becomes entrenched as chairman.

Reappointed as solicitor at the same per-hour rate as 2012 was William Johnson. Gateway Engineers was reappointed as the township’s engineers. Two other engineering firms were selected as alternatives in case there is a conflict of interest with Gateway.

Council meetings will be held at the same times this year at 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The exceptions will be on Memorial Day, when the meeting will be held on the following Tuesday and December, when the meetings will be held on second and third Monday.

In other business, Peters Township Council:

• Announced Peters Township Sanitary Authority rate increases of about 7.6 percent or from the current $5.05 charge per 1,000 gallons of usage to $5.65 charge per 1,000 gallons of usage. Township Manager Michael Silvestri said that the township has no authority in controlling the fees and that the last increase was in 2009.
• Passed a resolution to transfer a liquor license from Sinatra’s Restaurant to Center Plate, 94 Center Church Road. Sinatra’s went out of business before the previous transfer was completed.
• Approved an outdoor digital sign for the Peters Township Fire Department on East McMurray Road. The sign must meet all township ordinance requirements and will be financed by the department.
• Announced that the annual joint meeting with the Peters Township School Board will be held on Monday, February 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers.
