Apple dumplings are a favorite at the Greenock U. M. Church Apple Fest. Larry Hettler oversees the baking until they are golden with a crispy crust.

Apple Fest

Greenock U.M. Church will host its annual community event from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. that will serve pork and chicken, favorite side dishes and baked goods at 1213 Greenock Buena Vista Road. Singer Rubbie Greenewald will perform folk and classic rock songs. Preschool director Cindy Obley and teachers will sponsor children’s games.

Log House Days

The 8th Pa. Regiment of the Continental Line will pitch their tents at the adjacent Greenock Log House site to provide hands-on experience with living history from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The log house will be open to showcase restoration efforts by the Elizabeth Township Historical Society that include handicapped-accessible porch, restored turkey-breast fireplace and several recent antique donations.

Vendors will range from alpaca woolen products, primitive decor, items re-purposed from nature and man, floral arrangements, jewelry to pottery. Appalachian music, Irish tunes and hymns will be played on dulcimers.

Artists or crafters may still sign up to display and sell their works at the log house by calling 412-751-5389 or sending an E-mail to betweentworivershistory@gmail.com. To reserve a 10’ by 10’ space rain or shine, send $25 check made to ETHS Log House and mail to Debbie Gilbert, 1109 Sommerset Street, McKeesport, Pa. 15135.

For additional information about these events, please call the church at 412-751-7726.
