Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, for the celebration of Independence Day.

Home Care and Hospice Program

Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center will host a representative from Albert Gallatin Home Care and Hospice on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 1 p.m. The program will cover the definition of hospice, eligibility criteria, our multi-disciplinary team, and medication management. She will be speaking on the Hospice Medicare benefit, eligibility and the many benefits of hospice. We will be discussing how to handle a life limiting illness, offering valuable information and resources to assist in making an informed decision about end of life care.

"Gambling Away Your Golden Years" Presentation

On Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 6 p.m., the Westmoreland County Drug and Alcohol Commission will present a one-hour program for senior citizens on "Gambling Away Your Golden Years." The program will cover the risks associated with gambling. A short video will accompany the presentation.

Summer Feeding Program

The Library is a feeding site for the summer feeding program that serves children and teens. A cold lunch is served Monday through Friday from 12-1 p.m. Participants are asked to use the door near the alley loading dock area. Lunch is only available during this one hour period.

One Book/One Community

The Westmoreland Library Network will present the annual One Book/One Community book lecture at the Library on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. This year’s selection is “Arthur and Sherlock” by Michael Sims, a Greensburg author. Please contact the library and register to receive a loaned copy of the book to read and participate.

Mon Valley Genealogy Forum

The Mon Valley Genealogy Forum will meet on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. New members are welcome. Light refreshments will be served. Learn about new trends and websites for family tree research.

Summer Learning Adventure: Building a Better World

The Summer Learning Adventure: Building a Better World programs are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. The Carnegie Science Center will present a pop-up planetarium on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Monessen Crochet/Knitting Club

The Monessen Crochet/Knitting Club will meet on Wednesday July 12 and 26, at 6 p.m. Bring your projects. New members welcome.

Coat Drive

The Library has started a campaign to collect new or gently worn winter coats, hats and gloves for distribution to those in need come the colder weather. Items can be brought to the library during regular business hours and deposited in the designated box near the front desk.
