“The Addams Family: The Musical” cast of the Monessen High School/Middle School showed their talent and made their hard work come to life on the stage of the Monessen High School auditorium.

Uncle Fester (Alec Tesznar) and Director Mrs. Hilary Brown take a moment out.

The audience was captivated by the production of the show by Mrs. Hilary Brown, which was held on the evenings of March 10-12, 2016. Also included for the event were popcorn, a bake sale, a Chinese auction, and half the take, with winners announced during intermission.

Brown said, “We’ve been in rehearsal since December, four days a week. There are 40 kids in the cast, and the average age is 6th grade to 12th grade. It’s a newer musical. It was only open to the public this year.” She said that this is her seventh musical to be producing at Monessen.

She continued, “These kids are like my own children! All of these kids are like my daughter's big brothers and sisters. They even call me "mom.” I believe in each one of them! They are a very unique group of kids to work with! Such talented teenagers with great big hearts! They genuinely love what they do!”

To sum up the story of “The Addams Family: The Musical,” Wednesday Adams, a lovely grown-up princess of darkness, is in love with Lucas (William Custodio), a “normal” young man. She then tells her plans of marriage to her father, Gomez (Charles Mrlack). His family must meet the Addams family, and all Wednesday wants is one “normal” night. However, in the end, darkness, including Lucas’ not-so-normal-anymore family, and love, all win over.

Milana Sacco (Wednesday) said of her part in the musical: “It’s exciting. I like it a lot. I’m in love with her character in general. I like how her character is very dark—she likes torturing her little brother, and she

walks around with a crossbow.”

A real audience pleaser, this show ended with a standing ovation. Then, the cast presented the director with gifts and flowers. Mrs. Brown expressed her excitement over the kids’ successful show performances and talked of their diligent work. Congratulations to the cast, crew, and Mrs. Brown!
