Sports

The Mon Valley YMCA is a proud participant of the AMYMSA (Allegheny Mountain YMCA Masters Swim Association). ‘Masters’ only refers to the age requirement of being over eighteen. Some swimmers age range from 18-75 years old.

Each swimmer competes in his/her own age bracket as well as gender. As the swim season continues from September – April, each swimmer chooses what swim meets as well as what events he/she wants to swim. Points are tallied from each meet but accumulated for each swimmer. Practices are not formally held, but practice on your own is suggested.

AMYMSA also offers a “short course” - events consisting of 25 yards (including all four competitive strokes) increasing to a 500-yard freestyle. All meets are held on Sunday afternoons, with usually one or two meets a month.

The Mon Valley YMCA is always looking for new members to join the team. If you are interested, please contact Amy Dunay at 724-483-8077, or amy@monvalleyymca.org, preferably before the season starts in September, although you can join at any time.
