Sports

By Paul Chasko

Spring is here and spring soccer is in full swing. Soccer at all levels is fun to watch if you love the sport but U8 and U6 soccer is a real blast. The kids learning the game can be hilarious at times.

You can’t do that! You have to kick it!
This was the first Saturday of instructional soccer being played in two locations. Games were underway at Union Township’s Brownsville Road Recreation Park and at the Fields in Peters Township along Venetia Rd. Parents and Grandparents were huddled in winter coats and under blankets. The cold wind just took the heat right out of you but the kids were out there playing soccer.

Wait a second, let’s talk this over.
The fields in Peter’s Township weren’t too bad as they’re in a hollow and sheltered from the wind. I was walking up the hill to the soccer fields in Union Township and a couple of obvious grandparents coming down warned me as we passed – "don’t go up there, you’ll freeze to death."

This has been one cold spring but the kids didn’t seem to mind the cold. I guess the running around was keeping them warm. Check out the photos. You may see some budding young soccer players you recognize.
