The 7th annual Tour de Mon bike ride was hosted on September 16 by the Mon Yough Area Chamber of Commerce.

Two riders begin their journey out of the Pump House parking lot.

Riders start at the Pump House at the Homestead Waterfront and can travel in two directions on the Great Allegheny Passage: towards the downtown Pittsburgh area, or towards our nation's capital, which is a 324-mile ride from the starting point in Homestead (332 miles from end to end). However, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Maury Burgwin, stated most people only travel a few miles and return back. The farthest distance traveled during this event, to his knowledge, is a 75-mile round trip by two young women during last year's event.

Participants checked in between 8 and 11 a.m., had their tires checked, grabbed their shirts, goody bags, and breakfast and started down the trail. Burgwin noted that there is not one set time to let all of the riders start to allow other community members to use the trails simultaneously- there are simply too many riders. Burgwin stated that the event has a steady following of riders that come every year. He joked, “I have a following just because they like the shirts.”

Back at the Pump House, a DJ and Rogue BBQ were set up to help the riders relax at the end of the ride.
