School News

The American Legion award winners were announced on June 3, 2019 at the 8th grade awards ceremony. This year’s recipients are Thomas Borne, son of Robert and Susan Borne of Finleyville, and Mary Urso, daughter of Jude and Emily Urso of Monongahela.

The American Legion Post 949 of Carroll Township was involved in the awards ceremony this year and was represented by Mr. Al Hupchuck (Commander) and Mr. Frank Lomago (Member and Treasurer of Mon Valley Honor Guard).

The American Legion Award places emphasis on the development of the qualities of Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship, and Service; the ideals of Americanism which will make young people citizens of the highest type. The award recognizes the boy and girl who is most worthy of the highest qualities of citizenship and of true Americanism. To qualify for the American Legion Award, students maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher throughout their academic career, earn the appropriate score on the American Legion Test, and are rated highly amongst their classroom teachers.
