Free Training Will Prepare Workers to Confidently Apply to Trade Apprenticeships in the Region.

As the commercial construction industry continues to expand, the need for skilled tradespeople has never been greater. Construction of power plants, health care facilities, office buildings and mixed-use developments is creating lifelong career opportunities in the construction trades.

To meet the high demand, the construction trade associations of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Westmoreland counties have launched the Apprenticeship Readiness Program (ARP) to help those interested in the trades to successfully apply and be accepted into the tuition-free apprenticeship training programs offered by the region’s 16 construction trade unions and their partner contractors.

The Community College of Allegheny County will hold a four-week, free training program at CCAC’s Washington County Center from October 16 to November 9, with classes held daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (150 hours total). The program covers first aid and CPR training, OSHA 10 certifications, construction math, blueprint reading, hands-on instruction with tools and materials at union worksites, tours of union training centers and more. Women, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and veterans will be given priority; however, all interested candidates are urged to apply.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Sector Partnership National Emergency Grant, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry Resources, is providing $200,000 in funding for the ARP.

For more information on the program or to apply, contact Brian Hannon at 412-788-7357 or bhannon@ccac.edu.
