By Paul Chasko

As certain as Spring follows Winter, so does First Holy Communion and May Crowning at Catholic Churches throughout the region.

The 2013 First Holy Communion Class of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Fr. Robert Boyle and instructors (l to r) Margaret Kuski, Carol Cicci and Diane Lucci.
At St. Francis of Assisi Church in Finleyville, the Sacrament of Holy Communion was received by children of the parish on April 28. The following Sunday the children took part in the crowning of a representation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a ritual that goes back hundreds of years. Placing a woven crown of flowers on the statue is traditionally done at an outdoor shrine but the weather doesn’t always cooperate so this year, the May crowning was done in the church.

On April 28, the following children received their First Holy Communion at St Francis of Assisi Church:

• Isabella Bergstresser
