The Kastan Uveges VFW Post 7632, its Auxiliary and the Alonzo L. Weigle American Legion Post 553 are preparing for the Memorial Day parade and ceremony that will be held in Elizabeth on Monday, May 29. The parade starts at 9:30AM with the ceremony immediately following. The committee is requesting any veterans or active-duty military personnel who want to ride in the parade to contact Kim Olcott at 412-527-7034 by May 15.

A Hunter safety course will be offered at Elizabeth Township Sportsmen Association on Sunday, May 21, from 8:00 AM until 3:30 PM.   The class if free, and all books and materials will be provided by the Game Commission who is sponsoring the event.  Lunch is provided for free by the ETSA organization.

Robert J. Harhai, 26, of Rostraver Township is announcing his candidacy for re-election to a second 4-year term on the Belle Vernon Area School District Board of Education.

Elected to his first term at age 23 in 2019, Harhai was one of the youngest-ever elected school directors in the Commonwealth. Less than 1% of Pennsylvania’s school directors are under age 30. His youthful and energetic perspective prepared him for a demanding first term, where he represented the Board in leading collective bargaining agreement contract negotiation, helped the school district navigate the coronavirus pandemic, and ensured fiscal responsibility was restored to the district.
