In a sharing of community effort, Elizabeth Forward High School students in the Makers Lab Class - taught by Megan Smith, Shawn Shroyer, and student teacher Dan Hart - spent February 2, 2016 at the Blaine Hill Fire Hall assembling 229 veteran banners.

Elizabeth Area veterans (l-r) Tom Cain, Charles De Bellis, and Rick Elster proudly display their banners.

The banners will be displayed in Elizabeth Borough and the Elizabeth Township areas between Memorial Day and Veterans Day each year, beginning with this year.
Prior to the assembly date, students cut all the framing as part of their class work. Superintendent Dr. Bart Rocco stated, “It’s an honor to have the students help the veterans in this project and to give back to the Community.”

In addition to thanking the students for all their help, the veterans also expressed gratitude to Art Mitchell Plumbing for donating all of the framing materials, DeCarlo’s Fruit Market for providing lunch for the students, the P &W Mini Mart for donating storage space, and Blaine Hill Fire Hall for the use of their facilities.

VFW Commander Rick Elster presented the Makers Lab Class and members of the Elizabeth Forward School District with a Veterans Award for their participation in this project. Jay DeCarlo also received a Veterans Award for his help in this project.
