The Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum, located at the intersection of Sixth and McKean in the heart of Donora is offering the following upcoming activities.

Book Discussion – “Steel Town Showdown”
A discussion and book signing will be held at the Donora Public Library on Saturday, September 21 at 1:00 p.m. featuring the most recent book on Donora titled, “Steel Town Showdown.” This book was written by Donora resident and Historical Society member Mr. David Lonich. Mr. Lonich will discuss his book of historical fiction, the story of which is based on factual events in and around the steel mill of Donora in the 1907 as told through fictional characters, and how he used Primary Sources to do the historical research to help fill in the historical facts.

Cement City Walking Tour
Save the Date: Our third annual “Cement City Walking Tour” will take place on Sunday, October 6. The tour will start at the museum at 1:00 p.m. with a photo presentation on Donora’s National Historic District – Thomas Edison’s Cement City, as well as showing artifacts and original blueprints during the construction from 1916 and 1917. A walking tour will follow in the Historic District to point out some of the various architectural details. Light refreshments will be served. The presentation and walking tour are free but donations are gladly accepted. There is no Steelers game scheduled on this day. Please contact the museum if you would like more information or would like to RSVP.

Artifacts on Display
If you get a chance, please stop by the Historical Society and Smog Museum to view some of our artifacts displayed in our newly acquired display cases that were made possible with funds awarded as a part of our 2013 Washington County Tourism Grant that we received last spring.

The Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or by appointment. If you have additional questions about the subjects mentioned above, the society, museum, meetings or possibly volunteering, feel free to stop by or email us at DonoraHistoricalSociety@gmail.com or by calling 724-823-0364 and leave a message.
