Over the several weeks, Rotarians in the Charleroi Rotary Club have hosted students from the Charleroi Area School District and students from Canada and France. The students provided information regarding their backgrounds and their connections to Rotary International.

On Wednesday, June 26, Natalie Baker and her mother Patty Baker were guests at the weekly meeting. Natalie had previously been a "Student of the Month" and was awarded the Charleroi Rotary Club's scholarship upon her graduation from Charleroi High School. During the meeting a check was presented to her by President Steven Arnowitz. Natalie will attend the University of Pittsburgh. She thanked the members for awarding the scholarship and noted that it would be very helpful as she begins her collegiate career.

On Wednesday, July 10, four students attended the meeting to speak about Rotary's foreign exchange student program. Accompanied by Donna Vesely were Sophie Heon, Guillaume Dumont, Sophia Uribe, and Adam Trussa. Sophie Heon is from Quebec, Canada. She is currently staying with Sophia Uribe who is a student at Charleroi High School. When her visit concludes, Miss Heon will return to Quebec. Miss Uribe is making plans for a future exchange visit. Guillaume Dumont is from Grenoble, France and is staying with Adam Trussa. When his visit concludes, Mr. Dumont will return to France. Mr. Trussa who is a recent graduate from Charleroi will join him for a visit in August.

The four students are part of the Rotary Foundation's Short Term exchange program which enables students to visit for periods of up to a month with a host family. While staying in the Charleroi Area the students have visited local and regional points of interest, attended the fireworks presentation in Pittsburgh, and are hoping to visit New York City before they return to their home countries. President Arnowitz and the members in attendance enjoyed meeting the students and wished them well during their visit.

The Charleroi Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at the Back Porch restaurant in Lower Speers. Meeting begin at Noon and are held in the Side Door meeting rooms. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Steve Arnowitz at 412-389-2096 or John Helfenstein at 724-494-3195.
