Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center will hold their annual gala on Saturday, August 3 at St. Spyridon’s Church Hall at 1207 Grand Blvd., Monessen.
The event will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. This year’s event is being called “A Conversation with Women of Distinction” and will honor former Pennsylvania state representative, Kathy Manderino and retired Major General Jessica Garfola Wright, both former Monessenites. With a nod to Monessen’s 115th anniversary, the library wishes to recognize two women who have excelled in government. Kathy Manderino spent eighteen years in the Legislature and Jessica Garfola Wright is currently Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness at the Pentagon.
The annual gala is the library’s main fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from the event supplement the library budget, help to maintain services and assist in providing additional programming.
The event will feature a buffet dinner of stuffed chicken breast and roast beef, salad, potatoes, and other side dishes, along with dessert. Tickets are $50 and available at the Library or from board members. Seating is limited.
Library News
The library will have a booth at the Celebrate America Festival on Saturday, July 13 at the Mihalich Boat Launch in the city’s Eastgate Section. Snow cones and Sarris candy bars will be sold. There will also be a mini book sale.
For summer, the library hours on Saturday has been changed to reflect a 2:00 pm closing rather than 5:00 pm.
