Girl Scouts visit nursing center
The Troop's 60 hour Silver Award project began in September, 2012 and was completed on May 9, 2013. Through a leadership project, the girls wanted to address the issue of stereotypes and the elderly. When they discovered that there was a need for visitations and social activities at a local nursing center, the girls used resources wisely by choosing a craft project each month and creating enough crafts to personally deliver one to each resident of the nursing home and spend some time getting to know the residents to enact a direct sustainable change in their community. The girls also put together a book of craft and activity ideas for the center to use to encourage other scouting groups to come and visit and share their time and talents.
