Registered Nurse Practitioner Michelle Antonovich is concerned that many area residents are unaware of the services offered by the “Healthy Directions” facility located in the Finleyville Giant Eagle.

So she was more than willing to stop in at the April NNCW meeting to give a short presentation and answer questions from a nice crowd of Neighbor to Neighbor Community Watch regulars.

First off - I personally visited the facility last fall. I’d been bothered by an irritating eye infection. After an examination and discussion in a private and nicely equipped examining room, the nurse thought I’d probably picked up the infection rubbing my eyes while working in the garden. After being chastised for rubbing my itchy eyes with less than clean hands, I was given instructions for using a prescription medication that was already being prepared in the pharmacy next door. The trip was quick, effective and cost less than a doctor visit or a trip to the hospital emergency room and, I received follow-up calls to check on my condition. This pretty much fit the “Healthy Directions” treatment niche - “Convenient, Walk-in Diagnosis and Treatment for Common Non-Urgent Illnesses.”

Healthy Directions is staffed by Registered Nurse Practitioners (RNP’s) from Monongahela Valley Hospital working under the direction of MVH physicians. A basic visit is $59.00 and most major insurances are accepted. Nurse Antonovich explained that the range of services provided includes:

• Evaluation and Treatment (of a wide range of common illnesses – children over 18 months of age.)
• Physical Exams (required exams for adults and children)
• Vaccines ( for many illnesses)
• On-site Diagnostic Testing
• Laboratory Testing ( full service blood draw center)
• Education and Screening ( free blood pressure screenings on request)

Healthy Directions is a smart stop for health issues not quite requiring a trip to the hospital emergency room. For individuals and families not under the care of a personal physician “Healthy Directions” may be a perfect solution for your occasional health needs. Just walk into the Finleyville Giant Eagle, turn left and walk to the other end of the building. Go to www.mvhhealthydirections.com for more detailed information or call 724 348-6699. If your health issue is more serious and can’t be handled there, the RNP on duty will arrange that you’re seen at an urgent health care center.
