Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, more commonly known as CPR, is one of the most basic lifesaving techniques. Used by medical and non-medical professionals alike it has saved countless lives. Now Tri-Community EMS has gotten a piece of equipment that makes CPR more consistent and efficient.

Members of Tri-Community EMS proudly display the LUCAS 2 Chest Compression System
The local ambulance company is in the process of training its employees to use the LUCAS 2 Chest Compression System. Chest compressions are vital during an emergency situation when a patient’s heart has stopped beating. Compressions take the place of a heartbeat, pumping blood and oxygen through the system to the brain and the LUCAS device performs this important function.

Even the most dedicated medical professional feels fatigue after a very short period performing CPR and performing chest compressions while in a moving vehicle can prove dangerous for an EMT and lack the consistency needed to help the patient effectively. While a person can tire or perform CPR ineffectively, LUCAS can deliver uninterrupted consistent compressions.

This light-weight, easy-to-use device is made by Physio-Control, a company that has been making medical devices for decades and pioneered defibrillation technology in the late 1950’s when they developed a machine to send an electrical shock to the heart. A device that would come to revolutionize emergency care.

LUCAS will be on board with Tri-Community EMS crews as soon as all employees have been trained in its use.
