Adult Programs

Join Dr. Jack Aupperle in the program room, Friday, March 15 from 10.30 to 11:30 a.m. for Book Talk. This bi-monthly program features reviews of significant and intriguing works of non-fiction. This month’s review is of Patton: Blood, Guts and Prayer by Michael Keane. The program is free to the public, but donations are always appreciated. Registration is not required. Coffee and tea served.

Take the three-day course Learning to Crochet, March 19, 21, and 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. Participants will learn how to read a pattern, do basic stitches, make increases and decreases, and how to vary stitches to make patterns such as ripple, shell, and basket weave and finish. Registration is required and is limited. Participants should bring a size G, H, or I crochet hook and skein of yarn to the first class. Please register.

As part of CCAC’s Big Read celebration, the public is invited to attend a showing of the movie The Heart is a Lonely Hunter starring Alan Arkin on Wednesday, March 13 at 6 p.m. in the program room. The story by Carson McCullers brings together four very different people: a teenager, an African-American doctor, and alcoholic, and the owner of a diner, who are all experiencing great difficulties in their lives and turn to deaf-mute, John Singer, for his silent kindness and understanding. But John has problems of his own.

Yoga classes will be offered on Wednesdays in March through April 10 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. (no class March 13). The class is taught by Julanne Bilbro-Ruch, a certified yoga instructor. Fee is $10 a class. Please bring a yoga mat. Call the Library at 412-655-2424 to register.

A program on Reiki will be presented Thursday, March 14 at 7 p.m. Reiki is a technique used for stress reduction and relaxation. It is a simple, natural, and non-invasive way to renew and rejuvenate your energy to create a feeling of inner peace and well-being. Presented by Arlene M. Stevens, RMT (Reiki master/teacher).

Programs for Children, Teens, and Families

Preschool Story Time: Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Explore different themes through stories, songs, crafts, and a snack! For children ages 3 1/2 to 6 years old, with or without a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Baby Book Nook: Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more! For children from birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Tot Time: Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Learn and grow with stories, songs, finger plays, fun activities, and a snack! For children ages 2 to 3 1/2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss: Saturday, March 2 at 12 p.m. We’re celebrating Read Across America with a special birthday party for Dr. Seuss. Teachers from McClellan Elementary will be helping with the festivities! Fun for the whole family! Enjoy games and crafts from 12-2 p.m. with stories read by special guest readers from 2-3 p.m. Please register by calling 412-655-2424 or emailing danylod@einetwork.net.

Teen Movie Night: Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m. Teens are invited to get together over pizza to enjoy a movie! After the birth of their daughter, the Cullens must work with other vampire clans to protect their family. Don’t miss the last movie in the epic series! Film is rated PG-13. For students in grades 6–12. No registration necessary.

Chick-Fil-A Family Craft Night: Tuesday, March 5 at 5 p.m. Stop by Chick-fil-A at 461 Clairton Blvd. (Route 51) to make a fun craft, play a silly game, and enjoy a free kids 4-piece nugget or strip meal!* Drop by anytime between 5 and 7 p.m. *Free kids meal with purchase of adult combo or entrée salad. No registration necessary.

Teen Gaming Tournament: Monday, March 11 at 4 p.m. Let’s play! We’ll have a Wii set up with a variety of fun games to try out! Feel free to bring a favorite game from home to show off. For students in grades 6–12. No registration necessary.

After School Adventures - Green Fun: Wednesday, March 13 at 4 p.m. Let’s explore the many shades of green through art and science activities. A $1 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. For children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Please register.

After School Adventures - Paper Flowers: Wednesday, March 20 at 4 p.m. Spring is finally here! Let’s celebrate by using origami techniques to create a bouquet of beautiful flowers that will last forever. We’ll also create a sampling of origami animals that wake up in the spring. For children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Please register.

Family Egg Hunt Extravaganza: Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. A mischievous bunny has hidden eggs throughout the entire library, and we need your help to find them. Join us for stories, games, crafts, snacks, and an extreme egg hunt! Fun for the whole family. Library doors will open at 1:45 p.m. A $2 donation per child is requested and will be collected at the event. Please register.

PJ Family Story Time - Very Hungry Caterpillars: Monday, March 25 at 7 p.m. Caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies! We’ll explore their metamorphosis through stories, songs, games, crafts, and a snack that’s sure to please even the hungriest of caterpillars. Wear your PJs. No registration necessary.
