Cub Scout Pack 1446 (Monongahela) Pinewood Derby

Cub Scouts everywhere look forward to the annual Pinewood Derby, and this year’s race was an exciting one for those in Monongahela’s Pack 1446. There were a few happy trophy winners, and other cubs going home just with their cars and big plans for next year’s race.

Cub Scout Pack 1446 is sponsored by the Monongahela United Methodist Church, and the race was held in the church activity room. The Pinewood Derby event has been an annual activity for Cub Scouts for quite a long time. Kids start out with a kit consisting of a block of wood, axles, and wheels and then let creativity take over to finish with the fastest and best-looking car. Weights of the gravity-powered cars are adjusted at a weigh-in prior to the race so they all weigh the same.

The track was state-of-the-art with an all-electronic finishing line. This is a necessity, as some of the 300 or so races run were too close to call by eye. In fact several were ties and had to be re-run. The

Wolfs:
1st place – Haden Clark
2nd place – Louden Stanko

Bears:
1st place – Jay McFall
2nd place – Logan Radaker
3rd place – Aiden Gernot

2nd place – Adam Telegraphis
3rd place – Hayden Clark

First- and second-place winners in each age group (10 scouts) went to the district race to represent Pack 1446 on February 16.
