Winter session of Storytime for children ages 30 months through 5 years will begin Wednesday, February 6 at 11 a.m. The program will meet each week until the end of March in the Activity Room of the library. Each meeting includes reading three books, singing and rhymes, and a craft.
The Monongahela’s Friends of the Library invite everyone to shake off their cabin fever with a “Soup-er Egg-citing” day at the library. On Saturday, February 9, at 11 a.m., Ed Repka will be on hand for a demonstration of the art of psyanky prior to a soup tasting. Psyanky is the traditional Ukrainian art of dyeing and elaborately decorating Easter eggs. Repka, a retired Ringgold educator and administrator, has taught classes in psyanky and had his work in that art exhibited at the Heinz History Center. Following the demonstration, the Friends have a soup tasting planned to introduce the Cooke Tavern Soups that they are currently selling as a fundraiser. The soups are available to order through February 11 for those unable to attend the egg demonstration. The program is free and open to the public, but, reservations are required in advance by calling the library at 724-258-5409.
The library is organizing a book club for those interested in reading and discussing some of the lighter styles of writing. Those interested in light mysteries or comic romances are invited to the library on Thursday, February 12 at 1 p.m. for an organizational meeting. The introductory topic will be the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.
The library is also seeking young writers ages 16 – 21 who might be interested in forming a writing group to share and discuss current work.
