Rostraver Township is committed to safeguarding our precious water resources through the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). The EPA and DEP regulate this program to combat water pollution and protect our streams and rivers, including the Monongahela and Youghiogheny Rivers.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference to our environment. Here are some simple yet impactful ways we can make a difference:

  • Wash your car on grass or gravel instead of on the street or driveway. Soap, scum, and oil residue can run into the storm drains, eventually reaching streams.
  • Avoid fertilizing your lawn the day of a storm to prevent chemicals from washing into local streams and rivers.
  • Do not empty grass clippings or raked leaves into streams.
  • Other small acts include securing trash, shoveling snow before salting, and storing chemicals in waterproof containers.

These small actions can significantly impact the safety and cleanliness of our community’s water.
