Ron Chromulak (at left), receives a check from George Apodiakos of By George restaurant in Monessen. The restaurant has donated $2,600 to the Restoration fund and their patrons have so far donated an additional $70 to the fund, and are still collecting.

Fundraising efforts are still under way to restore the WWII Tank in Monessen City Park. Local citizens have been stepping up to the plate, and their generosity has raised nearly half of the $16,500 needed for the project. The goal is to have restoration done by Veterans Day of this year. Grants have been requested from several large companies in Western Pennsylvania and several Foundations in the Region.

A group of Monessen citizens banded together and donated $100 each for a total of $1,200 to the Tank Restoration Fund. The group consisted of Ed Dzurko, Bob Filander, Ed Francowic, Mike Francowic, Rosemary Francowic-Spaw, Delores Harhai, John Harhai, Ted Harhai, Jim Perry, Ron Radacsy, Dave Riley and John Swallow. This group is challenging others to form groups to do the same to get the restoration of the tank under way.

If you’d like to donate, please make your check out to ‘American Legion Post 28’ or ‘VFW Post 1190’ and mail it to: American Legion Post 28, P O Box 145, Monessen, Pa. 15062
