The Monessen Community Development Corporation (MCDC) was founded in 1987, in order to help revitalize Monessen. Last year, MCDC received a micro-grant from Mon Valley Alliance, in order to purchase and install the city’s first Little Free Library.

The little free library was installed in November 2019, on Donner Avenue in downtown Monessen, on the property of the Schooner Center. The Orchard Christian Church maintains the property. MCDC Vice-President Delmar Hepple installed the little library, after being granted permission by the Schooner Center Board. MCDC board members Ricky Dick and Dawn McKechnie assembly the little library, Monessen Public Library Children’s’ coordinator Marsha Adams and her students decorated it, and volunteer Dustin Premoshis sealed and weatherproofed it.

Residents have already begun leaving books at the little library. Anyone can leave a book or take a book. More information can be found at https://littlefreelibrary.org/. MCDC hopes to install more Little Free Libraries throughout the City of Monessen in the future.
