A Ribbon Cutting and ‘Golden Spike’ ceremony was held at 10:30 am on Friday August 9, 2019 by the Washington County Commissioners, the Washington County Fair Board, and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum to celebrate the new fairgrounds bridge and trolley platform for the opening of the 2019 Washington County Agricultural Fair.

This project was funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Washington County. Used, refurbished equipment was provided by Allegheny County Port Authority and over 5,000 work hours were invested by Trolley Museum volunteers to complete the project. The new platform is over three times the size of the old one, can accommodate two trolleys at once, and features a new bridge, track, overhead wire system and signage. Final costs tallied at approximately $300,000 covering from design to completion.
The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum is in its 65th year and provided daily Park N’ Ride service to the Fair at a minimal cost of $3 per ticket for as many times in that day as one wishes to ride.
Dedication remarks were made by Washington County Commissioners Larry Maggi, Diana Irey Vaughan, and Harlan G. Shroder; Senator Camera Bartolotta and Representative Tim O’Neil; Joe Sezcur, PADOT; Washington County Fairboard members; and Jeff Kotula, Washington County Tourism. Scott Becker of the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum invited all VIPs in attendance to participate in pounding the ‘golden spikes’ and cutting the ribbon. Following the ceremony, refreshments were served at the Fairgrounds Food Court.
