The Monessen Pennsylvania Veterans Council is reopening its Military Banner Tribute. Once again, the veteran’s council is partnering with the Monessen Public Library to sponsor the program.

The Military Banner Tribute is a program where photos of local veterans, living or deceased or an active or inactive duty military person will be placed on a banner that will be displayed from one of the utility poles in the city of Monessen. There are currently about 275 banners displayed throughout the city of Monessen and city park area from the previous program.

Many communities in southwestern Pennsylvania have similar programs and they convey a spirit of patriotism and local pride. The cost of having the banner produced and erected is $100 per banner. The average life span of these Banners is 3 to 5 years.

Applications for the banners will be taken at the Monessen Library. You must bring a picture of your veteran, some general information about their service and a check or money order made out to “Monessen Public Library.” (Please note: the Library is CLOSED on Friday’s and Sunday’s).

People that live out of town can call the library at 724-684-4750 and may get an application form on line at www.troopbanners.com/monessen and email it to the library at dzilka@hotmail.com.

Payments for out of town applications can be sent by mail to:
Monessen Public Library
362 Donner Ave
Monessen, Pa. 15062.

Once your check is received your order will be processed. You may view existing Banners at www.troopbanners.com/monessen .

The Monessen Veterans Council consists of The Joe Walker/Mon Valley Chapter of the Air Force Association, American legion, Thomas McKee post 28, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1190, Mon Valley Shipmates and Mon Valley Leathernecks. Chairman of the Monessen Military Banner Tribute is Ron Chromulak, Commander of VFW Post 1190
