All residents of the Mon Valley are invited to the Charleroi Area Historical Society's annual summer picnic on Monday, July 17. It will be held indoors (as usual, with air conditioning!) in Riverside Place in the SPHS Center, 303 Chamber Plaza, Charleroi.

Four years ago, this annual picnic was called the "Olde Fallowfield Twp. Reunion Picnic." Many years ago, Fallowfield Twp. covered a wider territory as compared to today. The hope for this annual picnic is for residents in and around Charleroi who have family ties with those who then or now live in Fallowfield Twp. to gather like a "family reunion."

There are always special guests at this CAHS, Inc. picnic, as the Washington County Commissioners are invited and given the opportunity to share news with us. Other area historical societies are also invited and can update us on what's happening within their organization.

This year there will be truly SPECIAL guests at the picnic - George & Martha Washington. Reenactors Bill and Cara Elder will make our first president and his wife come alive for us. The Elders, who moved to Florida after living and teaching in Mt. Pleasant and Connellsville, have graciously added our picnic during a return visit to PA. We and they are excited to have them with us on July 17.

The picnic meal will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Elders' reenactment; then, as time permits, words from the county commissioners and representatives of other societies who are present. For planning purposes, please call 724-483-4961 if you plan to attend.

Our Society will provide fried chicken, beverages and tableware. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish (salads, fruit, vegetables, etc.) and/or a dessert. You don't have to be related to anyone who lives or lived in Fallowfield Twp. to attend! Just be someone who loves history and good food and fellowship.
