Every year on February 20, a “Hoodie Hoo” shout is executed at exactly noon in Charleroi at Magic City Square. The event is a festive community gathering of folks from Charleroi and the Mon Valley, who scare winter away by shouting “Hoodie Hoo” three times.

Hoodie 2017
Kristine Hall, Chamber administrative assistant, and Chamber Board Member Diann Donaldson gear up for 2017 Hoodie Hoo Day.

Music by D.J. Jerry Jericho, a giant raffle with donations from local businesses, and a lot of dancing and merriment accented the event, in addition to the sunny 63 degree weather.

The annual Hoodie Hoo Day is presented by the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce and Team Charleroi. The event sponsor was the Mon Valley Herald Standard.

The raffle, which was comprised of over $1,000 in gift certificates and prizes, was won by Sally Bradstock of Donora. The ‘Best Individual Hoodie Hoo’ award was given to Ted Flowers, and Riverside Horizons won the ‘Best Group’ award.

Deb Keefer, Chamber Director expressed her sincere thanks for the remarkable turnout, and all of the participation by local businesses. “No matter what the weather or day of the week, Hoodie Hoo Day is held on February 20,” said Keefer. “It’s like a silly unscientific take on Groundhog Day,” she added. She hopes everyone will join in the fun on February 20, 2018.
