Local People

On April 6, local Girl Scout Jesse Hinkle, in partnership with Waste Management of Western Pennsylvania, held a recycling rally for residents in Jefferson Hills.

She is a high school senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, and organized this event as part of her Girl Scout Gold project.

The Recycling Rally, which took place just a few weeks before Earth Day, provided local residents and youth with information about recycling, games, prizes, and a 360 degree tour of a Waste Management Recycling truck.

Youth were invited to participate in a recycled art contest, which encouraged them to make something out of materials that can be recycled. The decision was tough, but the winning project was created by Abby Ignaczak from Daisy Troop #58125, who created a luminaria stand out of soup cans.

Hinkle and Jefferson Hills Borough also showed off new recycling containers, which were donated by Waste Management and will be placed at local parks this spring.
