Adult Programs

Your opinions and observations are welcome at the Conversation Salon on Friday, 8/1 from 1-3 p.m. Newcomers invited to participate. Refreshments served.

Murder and Mayhem Mystery Book Club - Monday, 8/4 at 1 p.m. The group will discuss Started Early, Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson. Extra copies of the book are available at the front desk.

Stargazing at the Library - Monday, 8/4 at 8:30 p.m. All ages invited to participate in this program presented by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh. Meet in the library program room to learn what’s visible in the night sky this time of year, then convene in the church parking lot to view Saturn, Mars, Pluto, the moon and more through telescopes. Bring your binoculars to learn how to use them to view the night sky on your own.

 

Final Showing of one of the top 10 episodes of Doctor Who - Thursday, 8/7 at 7 p.m., featuring Matt Smith. Popcorn, candy and soft drinks provided.

Writers Group and Lifestory Writers - Tuesday, 8/12 at 6:30 p.m. Anyone with an interest in writing in any genre is invited to attend. Group provides support and incisive critique for professional and amateur writers. Bring a sample piece of writing to the meeting.

Music on the Lawn Performance by Blak-N- Blu - Wednesday, 8/13 at 6:30 p.m. Zach and Sean Landers play classic artists and more modern songs. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. If raining, the performance will be moved indoors.

CSI-themed Party - for all participants in the adult and teen summer reading programs on Thursday, 8/14 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. Bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Evening includes favors, games, prizes and plenty of surprises. Registration required.

Book Group - Monday, 8/18 at 7 p.m. to discuss The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith, AKA J. K. Rowling. Extra copies of the book are available at the front desk.

Children, Teens, and their Families Programs

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays, 6/3 – 8/26 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Explore different themes through stories, songs, crafts, and a snack. For children ages 3 ½ to 6 years old, with or without a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Baby Book Nook - Wednesdays, 6/11 – 8/27 at 10:30 a.m. Nursery and action rhymes, songs, books, and so much more. For children ages birth to 2 years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Fizz, Boom Experiment - Wednesdays, 6/11 – 8/13 at 3 p.m. Explore elementary science with hands-on experiments. For children going into kindergarten – 5th grade. Registration required.

Tot Time - Thursdays, 6/5 – 8/28 at 10:30 a.m. Learn and grow with stories, songs, finger plays, fun activities, and a snack. For children ages 2 to 3 ½ years old, with a caregiver. No registration necessary.

Spark a Discussion - Thursdays, 6/12 – 8/14 at 12:30 p.m. Eat pizza, play games and hanging out with friends. For students going into grades 6 – 12. Weekly Teen SRC winner picked each meeting; winner need not be present. No registration necessary.

Bug Hunt at Pleasant Hills Arboretum - Saturday, 8/2 at 2 p.m. Join Chad Gore, local entomologist, at the Arboretum to learn about bugs in our area. 181 West Bruceton Road. Family Program. Registration required.

Stargazing Event - Monday, 8/4 at 8:30 p.m. Join Fred Kline of Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh to look at and learn about our solar system. Bring binoculars. This event will take place outside in the library parking lot. Rain date is Tuesday, 8/12 at 8:30 p.m. Family Program. Registration required.

Teen & Adult SRC Finale - CSI Party - Thursday, 8/14 at 6:30 p.m. Learn about real-life crime investigation with hands-on activities. For teens and adults who have participated in Summer Reading Club. Registration required.

Children's SRC Finale – Fizz, Boom, Read Magic Show - Friday, 8/15 at 2 p.m. Explore the magic of reading with Science Magician Steve. For children who have participated in Summer Reading Club. Registration required.

Preschool Stem - Monday, 8/18 at 2 p.m. Explore the science, technology, engineering, and math behind weather with stories and hands-on experiments. For children ages 2- 5, with a caregiver. Registration required.

Taco Tuesdays - Middle School Book Discussion - Tuesday, 8/19 at 6 p.m. Bring a favorite book and a friend for talk and snacks with Miss Terry! For students going into grades 6—8. Registration required.

Kindergarten, Here I Come - Wednesday, 8/20 at 4 p.m. Special storytime for children entering kindergarten. Registration required.

 

Lego Extravaganza Club - Wednesday, 8/27 at 4 p.m. Come build with us. We’ll have Legos you can use, but feel free to bring your own. For children ages 3 and up. Registration required.
