Library News

Whitehall Public Library announces the following December Events and schedule.

Life with Father: A Chat with Rev. Richard Infante - Tuesday December 6 @ 2 p.m.

Join the library for a friendly conversation and reading with pastor and author Rev. Richard Infante.  He will talk about his experiences as a Catholic priest, his life in Pittsburgh, and the recent publication of Last Priest Standing, a collection of stories that mixes faith and fiction.  In the tradition of Flannery O’Connor and G. K. Chesterton, Rev. Infante adds his name to that list of writers whose works grapple with themes of faith, love, and the complex path toward righteousness.  Refreshments will be served. FREE - Registration required, call 412-882-6622.

Remembering Pearl Harbor / 75th Anniversary - Tuesday December 6 @ 6:30 p.m.

Join the Whitehall Public Library as we honor the 75th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor, a "date which will live in infamy."  Dr. Joe Michaels, a navy war veteran and history buff, will explore what happened on this fateful day when the Imperial Japanese Navy attacked the U.S. Pacific Fleet on December 7, 1941, killing over 2,400 American military personnel and injuring nearly 1,200 others. He will delve into some of the lesser-known consequences of this event, such as the role played by the USS Enterprise during the "fog of war."   This event is open to all ages, and light refreshments will be provided.

Location: Whitehall Community Room 100 Borough Park Drive, 15236.  FREE - Registration required, call 412-882-6622.

Ukulele Yuletide: A Hawaiian Island Christmas - Tuesday December 20 @ 2 p.m.

This holiday season, the library is trading the city’s snow and evergreens for sunshine and palm trees.  We welcome local novelty and Vaudeville group, The Kooks with Ukes, for an afternoon of ukulele music and season’s “treatings”.  They’ll play a medley of holiday songs (with a Hawaiian twist!) while we enjoy cookies and hot chocolate in a paradise inspired by the beaches of the Hawaiian Islands.  FREE - Registration required, call 412-882-6622.

SPECIAL FAMILY NIGHTS: FREE - Registration required, call 412-882-6622

Whoville Holiday Party - Monday December 5 @ 6:30 p.m.

Visit the Whos down in Whoville for a Grinch-tastic holiday celebration! We’ll have Grinchy games, crafts, snacks, and a visit from Santa. Registration is required.

Build a Gingerbread House - Monday December 12 @ 7 p.m.

Create your own Gingerbread house. Supplies will be provided.

Family Ornament Night - Monday December 19 @ 7 p.m.

We will make two ornaments, a family photo frame and salt dough ornament. Cookies and Hot Chocolate will be served.
