Library News

Monongahela Area Library announces the following October Events.

Fleatique Book sale and yard sale will occur at the library on Saturday, October 1 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Donations of books (no encyclopedias, text books, magazines, or moldy items please) are being accepted now.

Storytime will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 11, 18, and 25 at 11 a.m., and Wednesdays the 5, 12, 19, and 26 at 11 a.m. Miss Becky reads with the children, does small crafts, and incorporates some block play.

Thursday, October 13 at 1 p.m., Monongahela Area Library hosts a Family Block Party! Come and build something with your children!

On Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m.-noon, the Friends of the Monongahela Area Library will host Pet Pictures in the Park by Chris Grilli Photography. Call Sharon at 724-258-8250 to make reservations. Photos are $25 each. In the event of poor weather, the photo shoot will take place at the library.

Thursday, October 20th at 1 p.m., Book Bites will discuss the book Wind is Not a River, by Brian Payton.

On Tuesday, October 25th from 6:30 p.m.-7:45 p.m. the library will host Tammy Colt, Regional Wildlife Diversity Biologist for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Ms. Tammy will present “Learn about Bats,” where we will learn about the necessity of bats in our ecosystem. Tammy will spend a bit of time with us inside and then we will go outside where we will listen for bats with specialized Doppler equipment. Please RSVP. The program is open to all ages.

Thursday, October 27th from 5:30-6:30 p.m., join us for a celebration of Hoggy-warty proportions…you’re scheduled for Defense Against the Dark Arts…and Crafts. Come dressed as your favorite character to get in the spirit. Space is limited, so make sure to sign up by October 20, 2016. Tweens and teens ages 11-18.

On Saturday, October 29 from noon to 1:30 p.m. you can come Meet Your Party. Speakers Alan Benyak- Representative for the Democratic Party; Chad DeSantis- Representative for the Libertarian Party; and Bud Cook- Representative for the Republican Party will all be in attendance. This program is designed to allow the community to learn what each party represents and stands for, in an informational discussion environment, not a debate. Each party representative will be allocated their own time to speak without interruptions. Registration is required to attend.

SAT Vocabulary Prep will continue to be held on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. The library will provide vocabulary skills exams from actual SAT vocabulary tests as well as snacks and drinks.

Color Me Happy Hour will continue to be held on Tuesdays, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. The program is designed for young adults through adults of all ages. The library provides some coloring pages, crayons, colored pencils, and markers.

On November 4 at 4 p.m., join Monongahela Area Library as we host Todd "Ghost in the Head" Johnson at the beginning of Native American History Month. Ghost’s program will be tailored to the group he interacts that he is presented with on the day of our program. Children especially love his programs because the program is a hands-on experience. Please RSVP.

The Foster Grandparents will be meeting at Monongahela Area Library on Friday, October 21 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The foster grandparent volunteers help children develop academic and life skills critical to future success. Volunteers support children in: Head Start and preschool programs, kindergarten through 12th grade, and before and after school programs.

The Writer’s Group will meet on Wednesday, October 5 and Wednesday, October 19 at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the activities room.
