Monongahela Chamber Will Feature Aggressive Coupon Offers From Members Every Month in the Messenger

A joint effort between the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC), and the South Hills - Mon Valley Messenger will provide area residents with coupons and special discounts at local businesses.

Starting with the June 2019 issue, readers of the South Hills – Mon Valley Messenger will find valuable coupons and aggressive discounts every month on the Monongahela Area Chamber News page. These coupons will be sponsored by and accepted by participating members of the MACC. The number of coupons on the page will vary between 8 – 12 per month depending upon the time of year, and the number of coupon sponsors. (The MACC News Page in the June issue can be found on page XX.)

“We have been running a Chamber News page in the Messenger each month to share our news, upcoming events and information that is happening at the chamber,” says Dorothea Pemberton, Executive Director of the MACC. “We have been able to afford the costs to publish this page each month with the support of small ads from some of our members – but we feel like converting these small ads to a series of aggressive “coupons” and “discounts” for area residents will provide more value to Messenger readers, and help drive customers into MACC member businesses,”

Doug Haniford, publisher of the South Hills – Mon Valley Messenger says that the intention is for the coupons and discounts on the MAAC News Page to be “aggressive” in that they should offer at least a 50% off discount, a ‘BOGO’ buy one get one offer, or a Free item with purchase.

“Customers are not motivated by 10% or 15% off coupons,” said Haniford. “There needs to be a really compelling offer made to the reader that will motivate them to get off the couch and redeem a coupon at one of the local businesses. If all goes as planned – Messenger readers can look for a selection of valuable coupons on the MACC News page every month – and the local businesses that sponsor the coupons should expect an increase in customer traffic and sales,” he added.

The coupons on the page will all have the same style, design, and format to provide a consistent look. The only difference will be the name/logo of the coupon sponsor along with their address and phone number. “We visualize a coupon design that one might find in the big ‘Entertainment Coupon Book’ or ‘Enjoy Coupon Book’, said Haniford. “Just a very clear, simple and straightforward offer that is easy to read, easy to cut out, and offers a strong and valuable offer.”

Pemberton is driving the coupon initiative with MACC members, and invites all members to contact her about getting their coupon onto the page. “We’re excited to be able to work with the Messenger to provide our membership with a great way to encourage local customers to visit and patronize our wonderful local businesses,” she said.

Any member of the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce that is interested in sponsoring a coupon on the MACC News Page, please contact Dorothea Pemberton at 724-258-5919 or by e-mail at: macc15063@comcast.net
