The young athletes of Elizabeth had a great opening day that included a shake-up of their teams. For the first time in 50 years, the Mount Vernon baseball and softball leagues merged with the Elizabeth Township Athletic Association to create the Elizabeth Forward Youth Athletics.

NewEF1
State Representative Rick Saccone was guest speaker at the opening ceremony.

The season opened on Saturday, April 16 at Mount Vernon Fields. At the inaugural opening day, the parents and children looked on as the VFW raised the flag before the teams separated to play their first games.

The newly formed Elizabeth Forward Youth Athletics includes 30 teams. The Board of Directors includes President Bobby Madden, Vice President Chris Thoma, Secretary Jamiee DeSimmone, and Treasurer Lee Ann Matich. Their baseball coordinators are Mike Luke and Joe Wach. Overseeing the T-ball teams is coordinator Ted Ulmer. The softball coordinator for the league is Tricia Nigut. Fellow board members include Allison Grimm, Matt Bloomer, Matt Garfold, Luke Rider and Harry Rutherford.
