Monessen's annual “Summer in the Park” took place on July 17, 2016 at Monessen Amphitheater from 2-6 p.m. and drew the crowds.

Those who participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were (l-r): Maria Lucy, Karen Lewitsky, Delmar Hepple, Matthew Shorraw, Dillon Shash, and Robin Berish, of Create with Colour (her business), who made the sign.

As the temperatures increased, so did the good times had by all. The event was held by the Amphitheater Committee, which also had a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. for a recently installed new sign. The dedication was in honor of cleaning and beautification of the 1930s stone patio area, as well as the sign.

Matthew Shorraw, president of the Amphitheater Committee, said of “Summer in the Park”: “I’m really excited about it. It’s one of the biggest events of the year. We have really beautiful weather for it, and couldn’t have asked for a better day.” He also says he had a lot of help from his committee with the events this season.

Musical acts were first Scott and Rosanna, a Jazz duo, and then the Steel Blossoms, a country/folk duo currently residing in Nashville, TN-- here for a couple days. Local Froggy 94.9 FM joined the second group for a live broadcast.

Also featured at the summertime festivity: Sunny’s Gourmet Hot Dogs, Iced tea and lemonade, shaved ice, and a clothes vendor, food vendors, kids’ activities, Castle Blood package deals, etc.

Great music was sponsored by Monessen Community Development Corporation. Their ad sponsor was Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau. Season Sponsors were Valley 1st Credit Union and Maccabee Industrial. Special thanks to the Greater Rostraver Chamber of Commerce.

Dillon Shash, vice president of the Amphitheater Committee, concluded, “We would like to thank everyone for coming out, and the many sponsors!”
