Sustainable gardening is a central theme in the Mon Valley YMCA gardening program titled ‘Gardening through the Seasons.’ Six sessions cover what to do in the garden from early spring through late fall.

The series addresses garden design, soil preparation, starting seeds indoors, weed and pest control, pruning, pollinator gardens, and other topics for beginning and intermediate gardeners.

Master gardeners Peggy Brown and Hazel Murray share their knowledge and enthusiasm for creating beautiful beds and borders and bountiful vegetable gardens. All sessions except the pollinator garden session will be held at the Mon Valley YMCA on the following dates: April 7, May 5, June 2, September 15 (Pollinator Garden), and October 13.
The fee for all six workshops is $35 or $7 per class. For YMCA members, the cost is $25 for the series or $5 per class. Sign up by contacting Jodi Lignelli at the Mon Valley YMCA, 101 Taylor Run Rd Monongahela. The phone number and website are 724-483-8077, Ext. 207 and monvalleyymca.org.
