Four days of activities, planned by Elizabeth Township and Elizabeth Township Historical Society (ETHS), will usher in the nation’s 250th anniversary Friday through Sunday, June 25 through June 28.

Cheryl Copeland, an ETHS member who will portray Betsy Ross, displays the 1776 flag featuring 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies.

The celebration will include:

- Thursday, June 25 - A dinner will kick off the festivities starting at 5:00PM at Butler’s Rock Run Inn at 800 Rock Run Road. Members of the historical society which is marking its 50th anniversary will portray famous people from the time of the American Revolution and Declaration of Independence.  State and township officials will present congratulatory resolutions. Dinner tickets are $30.

- Friday, June 26 - A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6:00PM will officially open the Boston Field House at Rhino Memorial Field at 2001 Donner Street. An old-fashion baseball game will follow. Food trucks will be on site. Those attending should bring chairs and blankets to stay for fireworks at 9:00PM.

- Saturday, June 27 - The historical society will present living history with members in period dress and military attire including reenactors from the Revolutionary War at the Greenock Log House, 1235 Greenock Buena Vista Road, Elizabeth Township. Musket firings will occur on the hour starting at 1:00PM.  Food, bake sale, crafts and tours of the 1790 log home are planned.  Free spaces for crafters and vendors to display and sell their goods will be available when they register by calling 412-807-8452.

- Sunday, June 28 -The celebration will continue with an historical tour of the township like those tours given during the American Bicentennial in 1976. The tour will begin with a light lunch at 12:00 noon at The Buena Vista Social Hall operated by the Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Company (Station 145), and located at 3333 Fire Station Street, Buena Vista, PA 15018. 

Tickets for the dinner and tour must be purchased prior to the events by visiting the Elizabeth Township Municipal Building at 522 Rock Run Road, in Elizabeth between 8:00AM and 4:00PM weekdays.  For information, call 412-751-2880 extension 1023.
