Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington) announced nearly $420,000 has been awarded to nonprofits serving residents in Greene and Washington counties. The money comes through the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP), a tax credit initiative that encourages businesses to invest in projects that strengthen communities and improve quality of life for residents

“These grants are a great example of how public and private partnerships can come together to support the needs of our communities,” Cook said. “The 50th District is home to hardworking families, dedicated community leaders and organizations making a difference every day. These funds will help revitalize communities, expand educational opportunities and assist in providing winter clothing to at-risk youth.”

The organizations receiving money through the NAP include:

  • Mon Valley Alliance Foundation - $237,500. For the fourth year of a six-year revitalization initiative in Charleroi, partnering with the nonprofit organization Blueprints. Together, they will work to strengthen the community through projects that include pre-home buying counseling, riverfront park development, Main Street improvements and workforce training.
  • Literacy Council of Southwestern Pennsylvania - $135,000. The council is acquiring a former school building to expand programming and serve an additional 800 students a year.
  • Growing Up Greene - $45,000. The money will provide winter clothing to at-risk youth. The project will also improve tracking and storage systems and formalize partnerships to reach more families.
