| With support from her family and community, Sarah Trumpe turned a dream into reality with the grand opening of E’s Diner in Clairton. Pictured with Sarah are her daughter, Hannah, and husband, Mike. |
A new Clairton restaurant is serving breakfast, lunch, and community spirit, as E’s Diner officially opens its doors at 432 N. State Street. Owned by Sarah Trumpe, E’s Diner offers dine-in and take-out meals in a welcoming family-friendly atmosphere. The diner is open from 6:00AM to 2:00PM and is closed on Wednesdays.
Trumpe, who has been a member of the Forward Fire Department for 20 years and served as its secretary for the past four years, said opening the diner was something she was encouraged to pursue by family, friends, and loyal customers.
Before opening the restaurant, Trumpe worked in the cafeteria at Ringgold Elementary School. When the opportunity arose to rent the building, she decided to take the leap with encouragement from her husband, Mike Trumpe. “Everybody had faith in me and pushed me to do it,” she said.
The name “E’s Diner” has a special meaning behind it. Trumpe explained that when her niece was younger, she could not pronounce “Sarah” and instead called her “E.” The nickname stuck over the years and eventually inspired the name of the diner.
Although the restaurant is now warm and welcoming, Trumpe said the building required a great deal of work before opening. “When we first rented the building, it was a mess,” she explained. “It took a lot of cleaning, scrubbing, and painting.” A longtime fan of bears, Trumpe decorated the diner with bear-themed décor. This was a fitting touch in Clairton, where the local sports teams are proudly known as the Clairton Bears.
Today, E’s Diner has already begun building a steady customer base. Trumpe said she values customer feedback and often adjusts the menu based on suggestions from diners. One customer recently asked if the diner carried Thousand Island dressing for burgers. Although they did not have it at the time, Trumpe quickly ordered it so it would be available for the customer’s next visit. She has also added turkey bacon and turkey sausage to the menu after hearing requests from customers.
Trumpe’s children, 9-year-old Hannah and 14-year-old Jase, also enjoy helping at the diner on weekends, making the restaurant a true family effort. Customers are encouraged to follow E’s Diner on Facebook to stay updated on meal specials and daily deals. For dine-in or take-out orders, customers can call 412-226-1078.
