Mon Valley Academy for the Arts (MVAA) is proud to announce it has been awarded a Creative Sector Flex Fund grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, administered by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council (GPAC).

The grant will be used to continue and strengthen MVAA’s Empower a Rising Star (EARS) Music Scholarship Program, one of the organization’s most innovative and widely embraced initiatives.

The EARS program provides access to high-quality music instruction for children and young people who might not otherwise be able to afford lessons. Through scholarships, EARS removes financial barriers, supports emerging talent, and helps young learners build confidence, discipline, and creative skills that extend well beyond the classroom.

Support from the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council has been instrumental in allowing MVAA to respond to growing demand for arts education across the Mon Valley and surrounding communities. The Creative Sector Flex Fund is designed to help organizations remain adaptable, sustainable, and responsive—values that align closely with MVAA’s mission and community-based approach.

“This support from the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council helps us do what we do best—open doors for young learners and make sure music education is accessible to all,” said Annette Buffer, President of Mon Valley Academy for the Arts. “The EARS program has changed lives, and this grant allows us to continue meeting students where they are, nurturing their talent, and investing in the future of our community through the arts. We are grateful to GPAC for believing in our work and standing alongside organizations like ours.”

MVAA extends sincere appreciation to the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council for their continued commitment to strengthening arts organizations and supporting creative learning opportunities throughout the region. Partnerships like this enable local nonprofits to grow, innovate, and serve the next generation of artists and music lovers.
