Laurie Chester, a two-time cancer survivor who works in the Human Resources Department at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH), sponsored a comedy event to raise funds for the recently opened wig salon in the Charles L. and Rose Sweeney Melenyzer Pavilion and Regional Cancer Center.

The salon is a new service and certified by the American Cancer Society. It provides wigs and other accessories to people undergoing cancer treatment therapy at no charge.

The comedy event, “A Night of Comedy to Fight Cancer,” helped to raise $3,000 and was headlined by comedians John Evans and Auggie Cook. The proceeds of the event aided in the set-up of the salon and have been used to purchase furniture, mirrors, shelving and other salon accessories.

“I want to thank Debbie Burkhardt, Debbie Perry, Suzi Vercamen, Lisa Petro, Karen Porter, Ed Rosensteel, and Dan Bucci. They are members of my MVH family who helped me with the fundraiser. I would never have been able to do it without them,” said Mrs. Chester.
