The PEAL Center is sponsoring a mini-series on developing strong IEPs and working with school teams. First session begins September 30 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 905 E. McMurray Rd., Venetia.

Part 1: Developing a Strong IEP
This session explores the parent’s role in the IEP process. Parents will learn the basics of their child’s right to special education services, the process of developing special education plans, and the parent’s role in developing an IEP that is responsive to the goals written for their child. Bring your son or daughter’s IEP and begin the process of translating dreams you have for your child’s future into concrete elements that can be incorporated into an IEP.
Part 2: Working Effectively with Your School Team
This session will provide parents with the tools necessary to work collaboratively with school teams. Questions that will be answered include, "How can I work with my school district to develop education services for my child that are based on high expectations and prepare my child for a productive life?" and, "How can we build a school team committed to classrooms where all students participate in learning?"
Part 3: Your Parental Rights
This session will address parental rights in the special education process. Particular emphasis will be given to the Procedural Safeguards Notice received annually by all parents. This presentation also includes a brief overview of the differences between IEPs and 504 plans.
