Municipal News

Disclaimer: Please note that the following was based off of retained minutes from the Elizabeth Township municipal staff. Attendance was not possible.

Pennsylvania American Water presented checks in the amount of $500 to Blaine Hill, Buena Vista, Greenock, and Elizabeth Township #1 Fire Departments. They also briefly spoke about replacing 13,000 feet of water line along Pineview and that they are waiting on Penn DOT.

Will Hebda of Eagle Scout Troop 99 of Elizabeth Township proposed a project to fix up the fire pit and surrounding benches outside of Freedom Hall at the Community Center so that people can rent them out. President Rhoderick asked how he planned on financing the project and Mr. Hebda responded through donations and fundraising. President Rhoderick and Vice President Beckowitz both offered personal donations. The start date is tentatively set for May or June 2016. There was a motion to approve this project and it was passed.

The Code Enforcement states that they are still looking into the sound system for the meeting room at the municipal building but they are waiting on the quote to come in. The demo list for 2016 is being worked on and is currently in the process of the properties being cleared. Commissioner Evans asks the chairman about the house on Blythdale Road. Evans is concerned that with the warmer weather coming, so will the rodents. Racunas states issues with the right of way is harder than expected and says there could be possible legal issues with just sending someone to pick up the trash. Commissioner Blake asked about the property owner and John Snelson replied that that tenant is no longer living in the home and there is no record of a forwarding address. Chief Kerestes acknowledged that the trash is in a utility right of way and is under the utility lines and is a hazard. Bob Thomas asked about the property and the trash that is piled up at the door. Rhoderick stated that the magistrate process is not an easy one.

Chief Kerestes submitted his police reports and said they are a double report. In February there were 387 events logged by Allegheny County 9-1-1 dispatch with 7 adults arrests, 1 juvenile arrest, 80 traffic stops, 7 traffic citations, 15 motor vehicle crashes - 7 reportable and 9 non reportable with 3 injuries. In March, there were 334 events looged by the Allegheny County 9-1-1 with 11 adult arrests, 3 juvenile arrests, 91 traffic stops, 16 traffic citations, 11 motor vehicle crashes - 5 reportable and 6 non reportable and 3 injuries.

The board passed various ordinances and resolutions and a large number of motions were passed as well, and the meeting was adjourned.
